Bespoke web design & development

Custom-coded websites for businesses across the UK, designed around your customers, built to load quickly on every device, and structured to be found in search.

Plate IIStructure before surface

01 — What bespoke means

Designed for your business, written for your website.

A bespoke website starts with your business, not with a theme. We design every layout around your content and your customers, then write the code by hand so that it does exactly what your website needs, and nothing it does not.

Templates and page builders suit some projects, and if yours is one of them we will say so. Where the website has to carry your reputation and win enquiries, the difference is worth understanding.

A typical template or page builder

  • Starts from a design made for someone else
  • Layouts limited to what the theme allows
  • Carries code and plugins for features you never use
  • Speed and SEO depend on the theme’s choices
  • Looks similar to many other websites

Custom-coded with Ghill Partners

  • Starts from your business, customers and goals
  • Every layout designed for your content
  • Only the code your website actually needs
  • Performance and technical SEO built into the structure
  • A website that is recognisably yours

02 — What’s included

Everything a serious website needs.

Every project is scoped individually, so the exact mix depends on what your business needs. These are the foundations we bring to every website we build.

Bespoke website design
An original design shaped around your brand, your customers and the decisions you want them to make, not a theme with your logo dropped in.
Custom-coded development
Hand-written, maintainable code built for your website alone, with nothing included that it does not need.
Responsive desktop & mobile layouts
Every page is designed for phones, tablets and large screens from the outset, then tested on real devices.
Technical SEO foundations
Clean URLs, logical headings, page titles and descriptions, a sitemap and structured data, so search engines can crawl and understand the site from day one.
Fast-loading pages
Lightweight code, carefully prepared images and self-hosted fonts, with page speed checked before launch.
Accessibility-conscious development
Semantic structure, keyboard navigation, readable contrast and clear forms, following WCAG 2.2 guidance so the site works for more people.
Contact forms & conversion journeys
Clear routes from interest to enquiry: well-placed calls to action and forms that are simple to complete on any device.
Deployment & launch support
We prepare, check and launch the website with you, including redirects from an old site where needed, so the switch-over is calm and controlled.

03 — Who it’s for

For businesses whose website should match the quality of their work.

  • Established businesses that have outgrown their website

Your reputation has moved on, but your website still reflects an earlier stage of the business, or a template that never quite fitted.

  • Professional and B2B firms

Consultancies, specialists and service firms whose clients research carefully before getting in touch, and judge credibility from the website.

  • Businesses launching something new

A new company, brand or service that needs to look established from the first day, with SEO foundations in place from the start.

  • Owners who want a website that wins enquiries

If the website should actively bring in work rather than simply exist, it needs to be planned around how your customers decide.

04 — Why it matters

Your website is often the first meeting.

It shapes first impressions

Before most people call or email, they look you up. A considered, well-built website tells them you take your work seriously; a dated or slow one quietly tells them the opposite.

It works when you are not

A clear website answers questions, explains your services and invites enquiries at any hour, so the conversations you do have start further along.

It is the foundation for SEO

Search visibility depends on a website that is fast, well structured and easy for search engines to understand. Building that in from the start is far easier than fixing it afterwards.

05 — Our approach

Design and development, held to the same standard.

Design

We begin with structure: what your customers need to know, in what order, and what should persuade them to get in touch. Only then do we design, with editorial typography, generous space and a clear hierarchy that lets your content lead.

You see and comment on designs at defined stages, on desktop and mobile, before anything is built.

Development

Approved designs are custom-coded using modern, well-supported web standards. Pages are generated as fast, plain HTML wherever possible, which helps both visitors and search engines, and keeps the website secure and easy to maintain.

Because we also provide SEO services, search is considered in every structural decision, from page addresses to headings and internal links.

06 — Speed, mobile & SEO

Built to a specification, not a template.

This website is built to the same specification, so you can test its speed and behaviour on your own phone.

Responsive layouts
Designed for mobile, tablet and desktop from the start; tested on real devices and current browsers before launch.
Page speed
Lean, custom code; responsive, modern image formats; self-hosted fonts; minimal JavaScript. Core Web Vitals are checked before launch.
Technical SEO
Crawlable HTML, descriptive URLs, one clear H1 per page, unique titles and meta descriptions, canonical tags, an XML sitemap and schema.org structured data.
Accessibility
Semantic HTML, visible focus states, keyboard-operable menus and forms, sufficient colour contrast and respect for reduced-motion settings.
Security
HTTPS, modern security headers and no unnecessary third-party plugins, which reduces the number of things that can go wrong.
Conversion
Clear calls to action, accessible enquiry forms and simple journeys from first visit to first conversation.

07 — The process

From first conversation to a calm launch.

Every project follows the same considered sequence, with written agreement on scope and quotation before work begins and clear points at which you review and approve.

Timelines depend on scope and are set out in your proposal.

  1. Step 1: Consultation

We discuss your business, your customers, what the website needs to achieve and any website you have now.

  2. Step 2: Proposal & quotation

A written proposal sets out the scope, the stages, a realistic timeline and an itemised quotation, before you commit.

  3. Step 3: Structure & design

We plan the pages and journeys, then design the key layouts for desktop and mobile and refine them with you.

  4. Step 4: Development

The approved designs are custom-coded, with content, forms, technical SEO and performance built in rather than added later.

  5. Step 5: Testing & launch

We test across devices and browsers, check speed, accessibility and search readiness, then launch together.

  6. Step 6: Aftercare, if you want it

Optional hosting, maintenance and ongoing SEO, or a clean handover if you prefer to look after the website yourself.

08 — Ownership & support

Your website is yours. Support is your choice.

Ownership

You own what we build for you

Once your project has been paid in full, you own the bespoke design and the custom-developed code we create for you, subject to the terms of your contract.

Third-party elements, such as licensed fonts, photography or software, remain subject to their own licences, and any pre-existing tools or components we reuse are licensed to you rather than transferred. We list these clearly so there are no surprises.

You never have to use our hosting to keep your website.

Optional

Hosting & maintenance

If you would like us to look after your website after launch, we offer optional ongoing support. What is included is set out in the support plan we agree together, which may cover:

  • Managed hosting
  • Routine maintenance
  • Backups
  • Security monitoring
  • Technical support
  • Updates & performance checks

Prefer to manage it yourself or use another provider? That is entirely your decision, and we will help with a clean handover.

09 — Questions

Website questions, answered.

Something else on your mind? Ask us directly; there is no obligation.

What does “custom-coded” mean?

It means we write your website’s code specifically for your business, rather than adapting a ready-made theme or page-builder template. You get full control over the design, structure and speed of the site, without the unnecessary code and plugins that templates tend to carry.

How much does a new website cost?

Every website is quoted individually, so we do not publish fixed prices. Cost depends mainly on the number of distinct page designs, the functionality you need, how much content is involved and your timescale. After an initial conversation we provide a written proposal with a clear, itemised quotation.

How long does a website project take?

It depends on the size of the website, the functionality involved and how quickly content is ready. Your proposal includes a realistic timeline with defined stages, so you can plan around your launch.

Will my website work properly on mobile phones?

Yes. Every layout is designed for mobile, tablet and desktop from the start, not squeezed down afterwards, and we test on real devices and current browsers before launch.

Will my new website be optimised for search engines?

Every website we build includes technical SEO foundations: a clear page structure, clean headings, page titles and descriptions, fast loading, a sitemap and structured data where appropriate. Ongoing SEO, such as keyword strategy, content planning and reporting, is a separate service you can add if it suits you.

Do I own my website?

Yes. Once your project has been paid in full, you own the bespoke design and custom code we create for you, subject to the terms of your contract. Third-party elements, such as licensed fonts, photography or software, remain covered by their own licences, and any pre-existing tools or components we reuse are licensed to you rather than transferred. You never have to host with us to keep your website.

Do I have to use your hosting and maintenance?

No. Hosting and maintenance are optional. If you would like us to look after your website after launch, what is included is set out in the support plan we agree together. You are equally free to host the website yourself or with another provider, and we will help with a clean handover.

Do you build online shops?

We are not currently taking on e-commerce website projects. If you already sell online, we are happy to talk about SEO for your existing website.

Do you build websites with WordPress or Shopify?

Our websites are custom-coded rather than built on WordPress or Shopify themes. If your project would genuinely be better served by a different approach, we will tell you so honestly at the start.

Who writes the content for the website?

You know your business best, so you will usually provide the core information. We advise on what each page needs, how it should be structured and how to make it work for search, and we refine the wording where that is agreed as part of the project.
